| | “Preparando para Vivir, Dirigir, y Servir a Comunidades en un Mundo Global y Diverso”
| The Counseling Psychology Program is operated by the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University. The program provides an opportunity to earn a United States issued Masters degree that is offered through Alliant’s Mexico City Campus. The program holds a libratory education philosophy, espoused by the Brazilian educator Paulo Freire, which emphasizes the importance of dialogue in learning. Students will also learn about Liberation Social Psychology (la psicología social de la liberación), which was initiated by Salvadorian Jesuit Ignacio Martín-Baró. Training will focus on the development of both critical consciousness and the development of solid clinical skills. Empowerment is both the means and the outcome of this educational format. Students will gain knowledge on how to be responsive to their communities’ needs. Additionally, the link between Mexico and the U.S. will assist you as a student in gaining culturally competent practice modalities. This ability will enable you to work with diverse families in our global society . Alliant International University focuses on preparing students for professional careers in the applied social sciences. Our faculty, students and alumni are committed to making an impact in society and to results that make a difference in the lives of individuals, couples, families, schools, organizations, companies, and nations. Develop Clinical Competence Our students will be trained in developing core clinical competencies, with particular emphasis on applying psychological and systemic theories, in counseling children, couples and families. Graduates of this program will be competent to address: "What is needed is for our most basic assumptions in psychological thought to be revised from the bottom up. But this revision cannot be made from our offices; it has to come from a praxis that is committed to the poor." - Ignacio Martín Baro, one of the Jesuit martyrs of El Salvador

Unique Educational Location One of the largest cities in the world, Mexico City is dynamic and offers a valuable opportunity to experience a truly globalized environment. Alliant's Mexico City Campus is located in the city’s main shopping and cultural area, close to the historic center and within walking distance of the primary financial district. The campus is housed in an attractive historic building, surrounded by restaurants, bookstores, museums and cultural centers. Instruction is primarily provided in English , although some sections may be offered in Spanish. Many non-Spanish speaking students also participate in the campus’ excellent Spanish language program. A practicum program provides opportunities to work in a Mexican Mental health agency while working with supportive and competent supervisors. Dialogue is part of making a difference in the world.

| Empowering Educational Format This program is an innovative training program that uses traditional face-to-face teaching methods, online distance learning technology, experiential study tours across Mexico, and provides students with direct clinical experience. Course work will be taught by both US and Mexico faculty with expertise in cutting edge clinical approaches in today’s mental health field. Classes are tailored for the working individual with many of the courses held in the evenings. The program requires 48 semester units, which are taught in English, to cohorts of students in Mexico City. Instruction occurs through evening and/or weekend classes; weeklong intensives in the more applied areas of counseling (i.e. chemical dependency); and through online instruction. During the second year, students must also complete a clinical practicum experience. For details on faculty and coursework, please click the links above.
